Starting in January 1977 with a handful of employees, Britco's first project was the relocation of several buildings in the remote town of Port Simpson, BC. The first plant opened in May 1977, a 10,000 sf factory in Langley, BC, and by June the first Britco buildings were completed - two 8' x 16' mobile government lab trailers that were shipped to Whitehorse in the Yukon.
In 1979, Britco expanded into the rental market with a small lease fleet and relocated to a 30,000 sf production and administration facility. Steady growth in the business prompted the expansion of the factory to 40,000 sf in 1980 but by the mid 1980's, it was evident that Britco needed to increase their manufacturing capacity yet again. In 1988, Britco took over a 92,000 sf factory in Agassiz, BC from a mobile home manufacturer and the sales, administration and leasing operations moved to an office in Surrey.
As the demand for Britco's products increased, the company expanded operations to meet this demand in other markets and a satellite office was opened in Nanaimo, BC in 1993 followed with a sales office in Edmonton, AB in 1998. Two new offices opened in BC's interior region during 2003, a sales office in Kelowna and Britco's new BC/Yukon camp division in Kamloops.
For over 25 years, Britco serviced the United States market primarily as a wholesale manufacturer with buildings sold through a network of dealers. Considering the size of the U.S. market, it became evident that volumes and profitability could be much further enhanced by dealing directly with the customers and by having a Britco rental fleet available to this market so operations expanded into the Pacific Northwest in late 2004 with offices in Seattle and Portland.
In March 2005, a second manufacturing plant was opened to meet the increasing demand, particularly for custom-designed single & multi-family housing. The facility in Penticton, BC provides almost 40,000 sf of additional manufacturing space and produces residential housing as well as commercial buildings for customers around the globe with the majority of production going to customers within BC and the west coast states of Washington, Oregon and California.
Today, Britco Structures leads the industry in the innovative application of factory building technology to an increasing variety of building types that were traditionally built on site. Involvement in a project can be as simple as the supplier of modular space to that of a full-service provider of design-build services incorporating architectural, engineering, project management and site services.
Britco Leasing provides affordable quality, flexibility & convenience for business and industry including the construction, resource, commercial, institutional and retail sectors. Much more than just office trailers or portables, Britco Leasing has an extensive rental fleet of new and quality used buildings available in a variety of sizes and floorplans for delivery and installation anywhere in the Pacific Northwest. |
