At Britco, we help our customers rethink what is possible in building design and functionality. Building innovation is at the core of everything we do.
As an Official Supplier of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, Britco designed a 100-room Lodge and a 20-unit Townhome Complex in the Whistler Athlete's Centre in Whistler, BC.
Britco's
2010 Winter Olympic Games Lodge was selected the best modular building in North America in 2010 by the Virginia-based Modular Building Institute for its architectural excellence, technical innovation and energy efficiency This award highlighted Britco's design capability, production efficiency, project management expertise and sustainable manufacturing practices.
By building in a controlled factory environment, many challenges common to site-built construction were eliminated in the lead-up to the 2010 Winter Games, when the Vancouver Olympic Organizing Committee had tight deadlines to meet. While site preparation was occurring in Whistler, the Lodge and Townhouses were under construction in Britco's factory, ensuring that the project was completed not only on budget but also well in advance of the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Games.
Designed to LEED™ Silver standards, the project incorporated a comprehensive sustainability plan. The Lodge and Townhouses remain a landmark 2010 Winter Games legacy accommodation facility for athletes visiting Whistler to train and compete in events year-round.
Olympic Legacy Affordable Housing
Britco also designed and manufactured temporary accommodations used by almost 600 athletes and officials in Whistler Athletes Village.
After the 2010 Winter Games, these temporary modular units were disassembled and relocated to six cities across British Columbia - Chetwynd, Chilliwack, Enderby, Saanich, Sechelt, and Surrey - where they were reconfigured into 156 permanent seniors and social housing units.
This was a creative and innovative application of modular manufacturing which not only provided the 2010 Winter Games’ organizers with accommodations for athletes and officials but also provided permanent legacy social housing legacy projects in communities across the Province.
